Rachael Jory is in her final year of studies at the University of Queensland, completing a Bachelor of Music (Honours) and a Bachelor of Education (Secondary). She has studied piano performance at the university under the tutelage of Liam Viney and Anna Grinberg and has a passion for teaching music. In 2016, Rachael completed her thesis on teaching musicality and expressivity to adolescent musicians and thoroughly enjoyed the research project. She has been a member of BRYO since 2014 as a percussionist, pianist and percussion section leader. Rachael also shares an interest in Japanese culture, which lead her to join the UQ Japanese Taiko Drumming team, of which she is now the President and an active performing member.
Piano accompaniment has lead Rachael to a variety of performance opportunities, including accompanying choirs and soloists. She has also been involved in various musical projects, including the 2016 24 Hour Musical Project, the QMF Logan ‘Under This Sky’ project, and pit orchestras. Rachael is very excited to have the privilege to be a conductor-in-training this year and is looking forward to this new experience in the orchestra.
