The Scherzo Strings, under the baton of Rachelle Lee is a training orchestra for young string players, presenting an opportunity to play publicly whilst learning within a supportive environment. Throughout the year, Scherzo players support the larger Symphony Orchestra, providing a taste of what’s to come when they ‘graduate’ into the Symphony Orchestra.
The Scherzo Strings travelled to Sydney in late 2010 to perform and develop through workshops with some of Sydney’s prized youth orchestras. They performed at Darling Harbour, and completed a workshop at the Sydney Conservatorium.
In 2011, the Scherzo Strings performed with the Symphony Orchestra in ‘The Magic of Disney’, as well as in their own concert series, and a Mother’s Day High Tea. In 2012 and 2014 the Scherzo Strings joined the Symphony Orchestra to travel to New Zealand and Tasmania where they got to play as one large ‘tour orchestra’. This provided immense playing experiences for the players, who had a brilliant time!
